May is cancer research month, we would like to highlight a special treatment that is being researched and developed, called 1-CURE.

1-CURE stands for “1 Comprehensive Universal Radiotherapy for Everyone”. Its goal is to find a decisive solution to cancer. The project is being led by Dr. Wilfred Ngwa, an experienced physicist and professor of oncology. Oncology is basically the study of cancer treatments. One problem with current treatments is that they often only work on specific people in specific scenarios. This means some people who may be sick don’t always have a treatment that will work for them. 1-CURE aims to find one treatment that can address different types of cancer and work for many different people. It uses a special type of treatment called “FLASH” radiotherapy, using light to expose cancer, and also super “immune-boosters” that help train your body to recognize and fight off the cancer. Another good thing about it is that if it succeeds, it will also be offered at a lower price than other treatments, so even more lives can be saved. It's still in the process of being developed and it's very exciting.
The goal is to end up with a low-cost, flexible and effective solution to cancer.
